Marvellous Microbes

Marvellous Microbes was conceived during my PhD in the Thomas lab, University of York. For two years, we welcomed groups of school pupils and the general public to the Biology Teaching Laboratories, with activities including ‘crime scene detectives’, environmental sampling of microbes, robotic biosensors, and bug-powered boats.

Images from one Festival of Ideas session can be found here.

The following images are taken when Marvellous Microbes went on the road as part of YorNight.

On Saturday 17th November 2018, the Thomas lab descended on King’s Manor armed with piles of agar plates to examine the hands of visitors to YorNight, York. Find your plate below to discover how clean (or not!) your hands really are!
